Sketchup Lion

Here is a lion I made in Sketchup. Rawr!

Let's start with a body.

A leg and a paw.

I copied and pasted that leg and paw so I had four of them.

I added a head and some eyes to my lion.

A killer tail!

Whiskers and a mane!

Space Man Part 2 (With Google Earth!)

This is my second attempt to make an astronaut in Google Sketchup. This time I put a little more time and effort into it.

One thing that I need to mention is that I could not get my model into Wonderland. I exported my space man as a 3D model in Sketchup and tried numerous times to import him into Wonderland. Wonderland was lagging very badly and I could barely move, much less put a 3D astronaut into the world.

Here are the results!

I started with a block for the body.

Some legs to walk with.

Feet!

I originally wanted two spheres to get the black screen on the front of the helmet.

That didn't work out too well.

Here he is! You can tell he's an astronaut because it says "NASA" on the front of his space suit.

And here he is in Google Earth.

My Astronaut

Astroman:

I started with a sphere. I did this by making 2 circles perpendicular to each other (on different axises). Then I clicked on the "follow me" tool and it morphed into this sphere.

That block is the back of his space suit!

Some arms.

Some color!

Google Earth

Google Earth is a program that pretty much lets you explore the earth from the comfort of your computer. Here are some screens I took while playing around with it.

I obviously wanted to see what showed up when I put my apartment's address in. I'm the first one on the top right!

When I double clicked on Mount Fuji, it zoomed out of the previous screen and traveled across the globe to this location, where it zoomed back in.

This is the Google headquarters in California. I enabled the option for 3D buildings.

This is the Forbidden City in Beijing, China. When I hovered the mouse over those blue squares, it gave me some more information on the surroundings.

I clicked on the "find businesses" tab and entered the location for the Target store I usually go to. This is indeed the parking lot for it, although the image looks a bit dated. It might be from before Target was in that specific location.

I downloaded the Skyscraper tour and clicked on the Sears Tower. Great view from up here!

Aries Rocket Sketchup

Take a look at this rocket:

I am going to attempt to make the one on the right in Google Sketchup. Here we go!

I started with a circle and pushed it up into a cylinder.

To make the nose I made another circle on top of my cylinder with the offset tool. I made that into a smaller cylinder and then using the scale tool I made it into a cone.

Here's a little side rocket.

I remade the main rocket to better reflect the real thing.

Putting 3D text on the rocket that says "USA".

And some color! I copied the little rockets and pasted them over here. One thing I could not figure out was how to draw lines on a 3D surface such as the rocket. This prevented me from adding details like the flag or the black lines on the smaller rockets. Sadly this is still one of my better artistic renditions.

Playing Runescape

Here are some screens of myself playing Runescape. It is completely different than World of Warcraft and by different I mean not as fun or pretty to look at!

I am supposed to help this guy kill a dragon.

I need to climb over this wall but the interface makes things sluggish and not as responsive as World of Warcraft.

I collapsed the roof and it fell on the dragon, killing it!

What a boring town!

There isn't much action in this game so I picked a fight with a random woman (NPC) to spice things up. She nearly killed me and the fight took about 2 minutes total. Compare that to a fight in WoW, which is about 30 seconds at most.

I'm mining some ore.

I'm smelting the ore I mined, which means I am turning that ore into bars of metal.

And I just created some daggers. Woohoo!!

World of Warcraft Assignment

This assignment was supposed to be about Lord of the Rings Online but something happened that prevented me from playing it:

I had 2 gigs of space left on my PC, which is not nearly enough to install a game like LOTRO. Fortunately for me, I have World of Warcraft on my computer (probably the reason why I have no space.)

When starting out, you must choose a race and a class. The race determines what your character looks like and the class determines how your character plays. For example, I made an undead warrior. A warrior can take a lot of damage without being killed and fights up close to his enemies.

Loading!

This exclamation point over this NPC's (non player character) head means he has a quest to give me. A quest is a basic task that usually involves going from point A to point B, killing stuff, etc.

I'm fighting!

The question mark above this guy's head means I completed a quest and he wants to reward me. This reward is just experience, which is needed to level up. Leveling up makes you more powerful and able to travel to more dangerous places within the game.

LEVEL UP!!!!

I have completed a quest that lets me choose a reward. I'm getting this sweet cape!

One more level up!
